Vincent van Gogh is an iconic and tragic figure in art history. Plagued with mental health issues, he famously cut off part of his ear. But despite his struggles, he was a prolific painter who created thousands of works during his 37 years. Becky Kemp of Sketch.inc celebrates the the life of van Gogh in the form of a Kokeshi doll—a wooden figure known for its large head and the simple form of its body. Here, van Gogh is pictured with a sunflower on his jacket and a bandage around his head (over his left ear) akin to his work titled Self-Portrait with Bandaged Ear. The elegant simplicity of this figure is a great companion to van Gogh figure by Today is Art Day.
